Caesar, traditionally recognized as a general of exceptional infantry, is reexamined in this work as a potentially great cavalry leader, akin to Alexander the Great. The author has meticulously analyzed the Gallic Wars and the Civil War from a cavalry perspective, arriving at a surprising conclusion: Caesar, alongside his capable deputy Labienus, developed a revolutionary cavalry tactic that was crucial for his success against the Gauls. This new approach enabled him to break the siege at Alesia through a bold frontal cavalry charge in the seventh year of conflict. In the second part of the work, the author presents an innovative cavalry interpretation of Tacitus's Germania, particularly Chapter 6, leading to fresh insights. Additionally, the appendix features a "little cavalry school," designed for riding enthusiasts while maintaining a connection to Caesar and Tacitus. Meinhard-Wilhelm Schulz, who studied history and Latin in Frankfurt, has been involved in education in Hessen since 1971. He has authored numerous Latin teaching textbooks and contributed essays to various academic and educational journals. This research, guided by Prof. Jochen Bleicken until shortly before his passing, culminated in Schulz earning his PhD from the University of Rostock.
