This work explores the synthesis, characterization, and application of transition metal complexes with highly basic N-donor ligands in catalysis and medicinal chemistry, focusing on proton sponge quino[7,8-h]quinolines. These compounds exhibit remarkable properties, including high thermal stability (>320 °C) and exceptional chemical stability (in concentrated sulfuric acid), alongside an unusual “out-of-plane” positioning of the complexed transition metal atom. The palladium complexes of quino[7,8-h]quinolines and various naphthyridines have been investigated as catalysts for Heck, Suzuki, and amination reactions, showing effective dispersion on mesoporous silicon dioxide SBA-15. Combinatorial testing of reaction conditions utilized microwave radiation as a heat source. Notably, the palladium complexes of 4,9-dichloroquino[7,8-h]quinoline demonstrated excellent performance in these reactions, prompting a study of the Heck reaction mechanism through DFT methods. Results indicated an unusual binding pattern of Pd(0)-complexes due to asymmetrical arrangement between nitrogen atoms. Heterogenization in SBA-15 increased turnover numbers by approximately 200%. Additionally, interactions of platinum and rhenium complexes with DNA were examined, revealing specific intercalation by the platinum complex in mismatch DNA and a light switch effect from the rhenium complex. The cytostatic activities of platinum complexes against lung and ut
