This collection of articles represents the first comprehensive publication in Germany on teaching New English Cultures and Literatures, addressing the challenges faced by English teachers today. It explores the shift towards a post-colonial and global perspective, highlighting the increasing diversity and pluralism within English-speaking cultures. As we move away from traditional notions of homogeneous cultures and nation-states, there is a significant departure from Eurocentric views. In foreign language teaching and cultural studies, there is a growing trend to transcend previous frameworks of cultural awareness and intercultural competence, which often focused on national differences to instruct students in culturally appropriate behavior. The emerging concept of transculturality questions these national constructs, emphasizing the hybrid and interconnected nature of cultures in a globalized world. The 14 case studies included offer innovative, student-centered approaches to teaching New Cultures and Literatures in advanced EFL classrooms. They emphasize a new ethics of cosmopolitanism, fostering peaceful and enriching encounters among individuals from diverse backgrounds. All contributions are in English, targeting university lecturers, students, and schoolteachers.
