This case study explores the intersection of religious education, youth concerns, and social cohesion in Estonia, contributing to the broader international discourse on religion and education. It presents empirical research conducted within the REDCo project, which examines religion's role in fostering dialogue or conflict in transforming European societies. The mixed methods research focuses on the attitudes of Estonian adolescents aged 14-16 towards religion and religious diversity, particularly their perspectives on the school's role in promoting dialogue and tolerance among differing worldviews. Dr. Schihalejev utilizes three empirical studies, each employing distinct methodologies. The qualitative and quantitative studies assess students’ attitudes towards religion, while two contrasting classroom-based investigations delve into interaction patterns using video-ethnography and incident-analysis for data collection and interpretation. Based on these findings, the author discusses dialogical pedagogies for non-confessional religious education and proposes policies aimed at enhancing active tolerance within the school environment. This work not only enriches discussions around religious education in Estonia but also offers valuable insights for the international community.
