What are contemporary challenges to European security? The book presents eight policy papers (with concomitant experts' comments) which came out of a multinational, blended-learning seminar called Virtual based research on New Dimensions of Security in Europe (NewSecEU). Graduate student researchers from four different universities—the Charles University Prague (Czech Republic), De Montfort University Leicester (United Kingdom), Technische Universität Dresden (Germany), and Wrocław University (Poland)—discuss potential challenges to the European Union within four dimensions of security: societal, energy/environmental, political and military security respectively. In doing so, they offer fresh analysis and policy advice on issues such as asylum policy, minority rights, the diversification of energy supply, conflict resolution and the European Neighbourhood Policy, anti-piracy operations at the Horn of Africa and the prospects of a common defence equipment market within the European Union.
