The Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality (CAPP) is a personality-based tool developed by Cooke et al. (2004) for assessing psychopathic symptoms in adolescents and adults. The current version, the CAPP-Institutional Rating Scale (CAPP-IRS), is designed for use in secure treatment facilities like prisons and psychiatric hospitals. It evaluates symptoms through a semi-structured interview, file reviews, and collateral information, encompassing 33 symptoms categorized into six personality domains. Each symptom is described with trait adjectives and behavioral indicators relevant to institutional adjustment. The developers assert that the CAPP offers advantages over other psychopathy measures by focusing on personality pathology instead of specific behaviors, providing a comprehensive assessment, and allowing for dynamic evaluations over time. The CAPP has gained international interest, with translations underway, including a preliminary German version. This study explored the reliability, validity, and practicality of the German CAPP-IRS among male forensic psychiatric patients and high-security prisoners. Utilizing a multi-trait-multi-method analysis, it examined correlations with measures of psychopathy, violence risk, trait anxiety, and personality disorders. The promising findings contribute to the construct validity of psychopathy and discuss initial applications of the German version in institutional setting
