Early in his career, even before turning thirty, Mack renounced color as a medium, focusing instead on light as a projection in space. Unlike the works of Piero della Francesca and Vermeer, where light serves as a stable structure, Mack's exploration of light creates a dynamic organism that constantly reconfigures itself. He delves into the reflection of light and its impact on spatial relationships, emphasizing the interplay of time and dimension. This approach intensifies the frequency of encounters between light and space, leading to a multiplication of experiences. Heinz Mack, a co-founder of the ZERO Movement, has significantly influenced art since 1960 through his sculptural and light works. As he approaches his 80th birthday in 2011, the resurgence of interest in his art among younger generations has inspired this homage. The book illustrates the continuity of Mack’s utopian vision, highlighting his focus on new perceptions of light, space, and color, with structure taking precedence over composition. An exhibition will be held at the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Bonn from March 18 to July 10, 2011.
