In autumn 2011, EFER organized a workshop at St. Gallen University, leading to a brainstorming session that generated numerous ideas for enhancing the entrepreneur-university relationship. The author, a member of the EFER Governing Board, was inspired to write a book on this vital topic. The focus is on the entrepreneur-university dynamic, highlighting how alumni from entrepreneurship-oriented universities often launch new ventures in teams. As these companies progress through the corporate life cycle, entrepreneurs may later be approached by larger firms for potential acquisitions. After selling their companies, they often seek new challenges, at which point their alma mater may invite them to share their experiences. This can involve giving lectures on entrepreneurship, collaborating with students on new business ideas, or mentoring student teams in specific industries. Over the past 10-15 years, many universities have appointed Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIR), leveraging the expertise and networks of seasoned entrepreneurs to support new ventures. EIRs serve as effective resources for nurturing student entrepreneurs. This work provides a comprehensive overview of global university programs that successfully engage entrepreneurs, featuring over 120 universities and initiatives across 18 countries.
