As a farmer's daughter and agricultural scientist, I was unprepared for the call of “my plant.” Initially, I felt isolated in my experiences, unaware of the many “like-minded” individuals worldwide. My familiarity with woad, a crop historically used in medieval Europe for blue indigo dye, came from prior research. However, my personal encounters with the plant were transformative, leading me to craft these experiences into stories. As a scientist, I typically categorize things, but upon reflecting on my remarkable experiences, I recognized this as a private research project. With humor, I titled my report “Wonder Woad.” The essence of my findings centered on woad as a bridge for human-plant communication, inspiring me to share my insights with others. It took courage to go public with my knowledge, but the rewards were immense, allowing me to not only accept but also appreciate my experiences. I discovered that a serendipitous approach—following intuition rather than intellect—mirrors holistic research. Lacking conventional evidence, I illustrated my findings through narratives about my interactions with woad and other plants. This expression of plant wisdom fills me with gratitude and joy.
