Mehr zum Buch

This dissertation investigates the impact of interface changes on the enterprise landscape, focusing on the challenges posed by heterogeneous systems and the need for effective IT-supported businesses. Interface technology enables real-time interactions with suppliers, automatic customer data transfers, and employee data exchanges between authorities, making integration crucial. Key questions arise, such as how companies can manage their interfaces and data flows, reduce implementation costs, and identify potential risks. Current research in enterprise architecture management typically addresses whole-system landscapes in relation to business processes, often overlooking the significance of interfaces as subsystems. System lifecycle management tends to stop at the system level, leaving interfaces underappreciated despite their growing importance. To address this gap, a model emphasizing interfaces has been developed, detailing the typical lifecycle of an interface and its interactions within the enterprise landscape. Central to this model is an interface catalogue, which serves as a tool for documenting and monitoring system interfaces. This catalogue allows managers and IT staff to assess the impact of changes at the interface level and derive relevant KPIs. The application of the catalogue and KPIs is illustrated through two case studies in the manufacturing and logistics sectors.
