This volume is part of the Anthology of Swiss Legal Culture and explores the emerging field of information law, shaped by significant advancements in information technology. It features around twenty key texts that are important and occasionally seminal. Each text is prefaced with a background note and followed by comments and biographical details of the authors. A cohesive approach to information law has yet to be established, largely because it is a cross-sectional discipline that necessitates an interdisciplinary perspective, which is reflected in the inclusion of writings by IT experts. Additionally, a phenomenological perspective is essential, as information law intersects with various normative areas, including data protection, contract and liability law, competition and intellectual property law, and e-government issues. Over the past decade, the field has increasingly intersected with Internet law, which covers a broad range of topics. Current technological advancements require integration into a structured framework that addresses key themes in information law. This normative framework should incorporate elements for international policy considerations, a multi-layered regulatory approach with diverse stakeholder involvement, and consensus on fundamental guiding principles.
