Economics addresses how to satisfy unlimited wants with limited resources. This dissertation aims to explore new areas where mechanism theory can improve outcomes beyond current practices. The third and fourth chapters fall under market design, with the third proposing a new method for allocating lawyers to courts for mandatory traineeships. The fourth revisits the allocation of students to schools using a common algorithm, addressing strategic considerations. Overall, the dissertation contributes to understanding how mechanism design can address practical economic challenges.
