How can we envision the order of prime numbers beyond the familiar linear series? By introducing a spatial dimension, a prime space emerges, prompting questions about cognitive possibilities when perceptions of negative and positive spaces are inverted. Rudolf Polanszky explores these themes alongside fundamental concepts in mathematics, epistemology, and ancient Greek thought. His sculptures, pictorial reliefs, writings, and actions manifest these ideas with a poetic lightness. Using materials like acrylic glass, metal, mirror foil, synthetic resin, wire, and plastic foam, he liberates them from their original purposes. Through superimposing, layering, interleaving, nesting, or folding elements, he constructs new structures. Polanszky describes his nonlinear, spontaneous method of combining existing materials and forms as “ad-hoc synthesis.” The resulting “trans-linear” or “trans-aggregate” structures represent “an unstable construct of a subjective reality that points beyond a seemingly stable condition.” He aims to reorder correlations to patterns of imagination, modifying and distorting mental constructs. His artist’s book features selected writings, including facsimiles of handwritten notes and their transcriptions, reflecting his exploration of perception and experience.
