Hebrew pronunciation & accents

This book applies the principles of Natural Phonetics & Tonetics to describe the pronunciation of modern Hebrew, including intonation, in a precise way never found in earlier treatises. It includes an introduction to the Natural Phonotonetics Method, which can be used for any other language, as well (without the sadly known limitations of official IPA). The vowels, consonants, structures, and intonation of Hebrew are fully described and transcribed, with many examples of words, sentences, and a conversation, in addition to the intonationally integrated IPA sample passage ‘The North Wind and the Sun’. Different types of Hebrew pronunciation are fully described: neutral, mediatic, traditional (including, shortly, international). The accent of Jerusalem is also described, together with five ‘ethnic’ Israeli accents. In addition, 40 ‘return-regional’ accents are also described. There is a chapter on how Israelis pronounce foreign languages and another one dealing with Ancient and Tiberian Hebrews, and the Yemenite Hebrew dialect and Yiddish, as well. ISBN 9783862889259.
