Increasing traffic demand, limited resources, and heightened customer expectations necessitate viewing each transport mode as an intelligent transportation system, while also integrating them into a cohesive intelligent transportation framework with effective intramodal and intermodal interfaces. This concept was explored at the Third International Conference on “Models and Technologies for Intelligent Transportation Systems” held in Dresden in 2013, following previous editions in Rome (2009) and Leuven (2011). The conference highlighted various traffic management challenges that can be addressed through similar methodologies and technologies, tailored to specific applications. It fostered a rich dialogue between theory and practice, featuring case studies across all transport modes and providing a platform for control engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, and other professionals. The book includes fifty short papers presented at the conference, all rigorously reviewed by session organizers and external experts. It is organized into twelve streams, covering model-oriented topics like Road-Bound Public Transport Management and Urban Traffic Flow, as well as technology-oriented areas such as Floating Car Data and Image Processing in Transportation. This comprehensive collection will appeal to ITS researchers, industry professionals, transport and control engineering students, and traffic administration members.
