Product development and ramp-up are well-studied challenges, yet the end of production remains a blind spot in both industry and science, despite calls for support. This book addresses the often-overlooked topic of production phase-out, presenting measures that can transform this process from a mundane task into a key success factor for companies. It offers cross-industry insights into phase-out, supported by interview findings and the Phase-Out Process Model, which outlines the necessary activities and tasks during a phase-out. Additionally, the Phase-Out Production Planning and Control system is introduced as an enhancement to standard production IT, aiding companies in forecasting spare parts needs and managing remaining stock costs as production concludes. Through qualitative and conceptual research, the findings reveal significant potential for improving phase-out practices in the industry. The manuscript provides both theoretical and managerial implications, suggesting that formalization structures and mathematical models based on empirical research can enhance phase-out effectiveness. Ultimately, this work promotes the implementation of a structured phase-out process in management practices, aiming to increase business efficiency.
