The importance of the insertion of dust into the environment is more and more frequently being described in wide sectors of human surroundings. Whilst essential achievements were made in many other sectors, the sector of anthropogenic insertion of dust was not given enough attention in the past. Presently, the relation between the release of dust and illnesses that are connected with it, is being more and more overtly discussed in the public. Legal regulations on the insertion of dust having been widely revised, new limiting values have been enacted within the European Union. The present dissertation gives a review about the influence of the emission of dust on the sectors occupational health and safety, environmental protection, fire and explosion control as well as health protection. It deals with technical methods to determine dust emission that have been used from the past until today and describes the development of an established method to measure dust emission, in order to prove dust fractions that are relevant in working environment. The last part of the dissertation describes a new model that illustrates the performance of dust emission for nanodisperse materials. This model gives consideration to the description of superfine particles. The theoretical status on the part of fundamental research within the sector of the quality of dust emission is reproduced. Further scientific research fields are displayed that are necessary to better describe and forecast the quality of dust emission of disperse materials. This dissertation is to delineate in detail the effects on the environment, on man and on fire and explosion control.
