The present work investigates the usability of straw from rape for the production of natural fiber compounds. It is done with samples containing up to 30 % of straw from rape. Analyzed are the change in density and the water uptake. The mechanical properties are tested by tensile tests, flexural tests, and impact tests. The results were compared to the data of compounds containing fibers of flax and hemp. The unusual method of a gamma - ray treatment of the produced compounds to enhance the embedding of the fibers into the polymer is tested. Furthermore, thermoplastic elastomers were used and evaluated as novel additives for compounding of natural fibers.
