The general objective of this study is to understand better, and to quantify the difference between the calculated and measured bearing capacity of a foundation pile, both for the analytical design methods and the CPT design methods. In order to fulfill this objective, this study will be primarily focused on the influence of the pile tip failure mechanism and on its bearing capacity. The hypothesis is that a better understanding of the force equilibrium of the stresses surrounding the pile foundation failure mechanism, which can be obtained from numerical load tests, will lead to a better analytical solution of the pile bearing capacity.
