I was pleasantly surprised when Springer-Verlag asked me to prepare a second edition of this volume on Linear Optimization and Extensions, which has been reasonably well received by the global optimization community. My objective remains to detail the major algorithmic ideas in linear optimization that have evolved over the past fifty years, significantly altering the optimization landscape both theoretically and computationally. While I may have overlooked some recent developments, such as Farid Alizadeh's work on generalizing linear programming to semidefinite programming, I believe that no major breakthroughs have occurred in theory and computation since the original publication. Consequently, I focused on thoroughly reworking the manuscript to enhance readability. This edition corrects some minor issues from the first and includes additional illustrations. The index has been substantially expanded, allowing readers to quickly access the wealth of topics covered in the first edition. As with the original, Dr.
