The publication of the cemeteries at Kammelhöhe, Sonneben [DF 5], Moserfeld-Osthang [DF 6], Hexenwandfeld [DF 7], Lettenbühel, Friedhof [DF 8], and Römersteig [DF 9] are followed by the necropolis at Eislfeld excavated between 1963 and 2003. With 194 bodies in 110 graves it is the largest one and, given its wealth, one of the most important ones, too. There is particularly clear evidence for wooden chambers of several storeys, multiple burials in collective graves, and secondary burial. The volume starts with the presentation of topography, history of research, and methodology and continues with interdisciplinary studies of graves, finds, and human skeletal remains. Next there are chapters on animal bones, outstanding finds, anthropology, chronology, and chorology. Amongst the dead, 84 females and 56 males were identified, age at death being determined for 54 subadults and 125 adults. The cemetery was used from Ha D1 to Lt B1. Apart from inhumations there were also cremations, two pyres, and dry stone constructions. It was usual to equip the dead with food, drink, iron slashing knives, dress accessories, and sometimes weapons. Graves were covered by barrows up to 12 m in diameter.
