Calladia Cunnington, heir to a founding witch family in Glimmer Falls, struggles with her rough edges and a hot temper that often leads to bar brawls. Her passion for the gym helps channel her anxieties, but everything changes when she saves a man from a demon attack. This man turns out to be Astaroth, a notorious demon and member of the high council, who has lost his memory after being banished to the mortal realm. Astaroth is unaware of his past, including a soul bargain he made that affected Calladia's best friend, and he doesn't understand why the fierce witch who saved him harbors such animosity. Despite her reservations, Calladia decides to help him, reasoning that attacking an amnesiac would be unwise. Together, they embark on a reluctant road trip to find a witch who can restore Astaroth's memory and help them confront Moloch, the demon pursuing him. Calladia is determined to confront Astaroth once he regains his memories, but as they spend time together, she finds herself drawn to this charming version of him, complicating her feelings about his recovery.

I had already read the first book of the Glimmer Falls series, so I knew what I was getting myself into. I think the plot in this one is even stronger than in the first book, great! But I take issues with the writing itself. I find it too crude in a way that clashes with the deeper feelings the characters feel for one another, it abruptly interrupts the magic of the moment. I have no quarrel with openly sexual content, I'll go as far as to say we pick up this kind of books also for the smut, but it's just not well written. Furthermore, the author often feels the need to overly explain what’s going on in the characters' minds, there's a lot of hand-holding for the reader when it comes to working through feelings and so on. Maybe the author’s style and tone are simply not my to my taste. That said, I repeat, the plot is there, the characters are fully flashed-out. It’s a solid palate cleanser in between heavier reads.
