A #1 New York Times Bestseller and USA Today Book of the Year, now a major motion picture featuring Emily Blunt, this debut psychological thriller transforms how you perceive others' lives. "Nothing is more addicting," claims Vanity Fair, while The New York Times notes its mastery of unreliable narration, drawing a captivated readership. USA Today describes it as a blend of movie noir and novelistic trickery, promising surprises at every turn. The Boston Globe highlights how the narrative propels through the stagnation of suburban life, compelling readers to keep turning pages. Fans of Gone Girl will eagerly consume this gripping tale. Rachel rides the same commuter train daily, observing a seemingly perfect couple, whom she names Jess and Jason, from the window. Their idyllic life starkly contrasts her own recent loss. However, everything shifts when she witnesses something shocking during her routine journey. Though the train moves on in just a minute, the impact of what she saw is profound. Unable to remain silent, Rachel approaches the police, but doubts arise about her reliability. As she becomes increasingly entangled in the investigation and the lives of those involved, she must confront whether her actions have caused more harm than good.
