Engaged to Laurie, she becomes captivated by Alphonse, a man involved in efforts to break the siege. Meanwhile, a subplot features Sister Bernadine, who grapples with her troubled past while caring for a newborn delivered unexpectedly in her convent. As Eveline fights for freedom, Bernadine strives to protect the innocent child from the chaos surrounding them.
