Composed between 1893 and 1894, this symphony premiered in Boston under the composer's baton and won first prize at a National Conservatory competition judged by Antonin Dvorak. Spanning 35 minutes, the romantic work garnered acclaim and numerous performances during its initial years but faded from popularity in the 1930s. Recently, it has seen a resurgence of interest.
