Set in Tanganyika from 1936 to 1952, this sequel follows David Read as he navigates the challenges of schooling and adulthood amidst the backdrop of the region's rich wildlife. His journey includes military service with Masai and Samburu warriors during World War II, leading them across Africa and into Asia. After the war, he becomes a veterinary officer, utilizing his childhood experiences to explore East Africa's game parks, investigate tribal rituals, and engage with the elusive Ndorobo people.
