This chronology of a life's events with its anecdotes is shared with the reader. The experiences he portrays start with banishment to an orphanage in an outport of Newfoundland at a very young age. Events take him to England for an education, then back to the "Rock" and Labrador for work. Stories of the life and people from that area in the early years of the past century are historic. As the challenge to survive through the "Great Depression" and the coming of World War II became greater, the pressure to leave and travel to Canada in search of sustenance won. Arriving in Toronto, a whole world of adventure opens up and takes one through the years of an early day entrepreneur. With a veterinarian practice always in place, the author takes on a succession of projects - from whaler, to farmer, to innkeeper, to writer. The challenges faced and the situations that result, are displayed with humor from a very specific point of view; an enjoyable and informative read of life in another time, another world.
