A poet among explorers, Chamisso in the South Seas

Chamisso's voyage to the South Seas in the early nineteenth century presents a topic which has not yet met with the attention it deserves. The Pacific Islands, visited by him as one of the first German intellectuals, found a reflection in his prose and poetry which is of particular interest to the modern reader.
