Postmodernism in American literature

We are well aware that 'postmodernism' is by no means a movement confined to literature, and the reader of the present collection will soon realize that our contributors do not confine themselves to literary criticism, but frequently branch out into art criticism, philosophy, or a general critique of modern, contemporary, and 'postmodern' culture as a whole. The present volume, which represents a cross section of the relevant critical debate, can offer no final solutions either as to the precise theoretical or the practical usefulness of the term.
