Maximianus’ Elegies
Love Elegy Grew Old
This book offers a new reading of Maximianus' Elegies, who has been characterized as 'the last love elegist of Antiquity'. It examines subjects such as intertextuality, intratextuality, generic interaction, and the poet's metapoetic self-consciousness. The author studies the two main purposes of Maximianus' poetry, namely: to state that the genre of love elegy had become obsolete during his era; and to attempt to innovate within the genre. It is the first monograph on Maximianus' poetics'.
