Kritisch wurde diskutiert, ob rassistisches Vokabular verwendet werden sollte, da es retraumatisierend wirken kann. Letztlich wurde entschieden, einige abwertende Begriffe im Original zu belassen. Biermanns Übersetzung spiegelt die brutale Sprache eines ganzen Jahrhunderts wider und fordert dazu auf, die Geschichte nicht zu vergessen.
