Albert Wendlands lebenslange Faszination für Science-Fiction wurde durch frühes Interesse an Astronomie und Comics geweckt. An der Seton Hill University pflegte er eine reiche akademische Laufbahn, lehrte und schrieb ausgiebig über verschiedene literarische Themen, darunter Romantik, das Erhabene, den Graphic Novel und die Science-Fiction selbst. Aus dem Wunsch heraus, das Genre-Schreiben zu fördern, gründete er mitbegründete er ein einzigartiges MFA-Programm, das sich der populären Fiktion widmet und ihn schließlich zu seiner Rückkehr zum Schreiben von Science-Fiction-Romanen inspirierte.
