The stories in the book are born out of sleep times of a lovely family- the mummy, big sister Maahi and the Sotos warrior Kiaan - the sleeping squad. Kiaan was born with a rare genetic disorder called Sotos syndrome, a random genetic mutation that can occur in babies every once in 15,000 times! He has also been diagnosed with ASD (Autism spectrum disorder). Kiaan is unique and a ‘limited edition’ boy who melts the family’s hearts with his charming personality. His disorder means many challenges for him, including autism and lack of speech and age-appropriate understanding, but it also has many positives like lovely softest skin, melting cuddles and beautiful smiles. Kiaan, who is now six, would not have his sleep time any other way. He will come to mummy and sign for bedtime and then patiently wait for his sister to finish her meal or homework (this can be forever) until she and mummy come with him upstairs. Kiaan would always lie in the middle of mummy and Maahi and follow the bedtime ritual getting on and off the bed, switching on and off the lights few times before settling down. Mummy and Maahi would make stories rolling simple characters into situations that Kiaan would understand to make bedtime fun for him. This is how ‘Moon in my Room’ was born.
