The botanist's role involves identifying conservation species and managing soil disturbance permits. Additionally, responsibilities include serving as a Health Safety Environment supervisor for CHALCO, conducting inventories of protected species during port construction, and training team leaders from CRCC on environmental standards compliance.

Als botanicus voor FLUOR voert de auteur studies uit langs de spoorlijn en in het havengebied van Forécariah. Het doel is het lokaliseren van beschermde soorten en het verlenen van vergunningen voor bodemverstoring. Daarnaast houdt hij toezicht op gezondheid, veiligheid en milieu binnen het SIMANDOU-project.
