The recipes in this book come from my culinary knowledge and creativity; they are my own original recipes, and they have been a blessing to me in making people happy through my cooking. Each has been prepared repeatedly until perfected. Measurements are not a big thing in these recipes, and that's what makes them so quick and easy. The ingredients you'll find here come from the prison canteen lists and from meal trays served to prisoners. These low budget foods are available on most prison canteens/commissaries /stores. You may need to substitute some ingredients if they are not available to you. Other ingredients may come from your own institution's dining hall or kitchen.Know that you have to use what ingredients are available to you; just try to keep them similar to what you find in the recipes. If you are using this book in the free world, please refer to the canteen list in back of the book for brand names and amounts. You have to be creative when cooking. I took my own canteen list and said to myself, "Creativity, be free!" Then I used my culinary touch and taste buds to produce meals "The Big Cal Way."

    • Parent to Raising Children from Prison entails the painful and real emotions a parent experiences while incarcerated and separated from their children. The book explains how an incarcerated parent must discover, find, and explore himself before he can be beneficial to his children. It involves the personal sharing of the author's story, and how he used many resources including, but not limited to, self-reflection and self-examination in order to overcome the many past hurts he experienced. He discusses the importance of maintaining mental and physical health, how to achieve it, and in other chapters, he discusses the difference between discipline and punishment, the importance of communication, and healing, forgiveness, and love. Also, the author offers more in-depth discussions as well as techniques and ideas of how parents can be actively involved with their children while incarcerated. Once a parent begins to make changes in his/her own life, then they can begin to make a positive influence in their children's lives. In addition, the author has provided a recommended reading list as well as examples of some of his own correspondence while incarcerated between himself and his children. Also added is a chart of "ages and growth stages for children" as well as a list of support groups for incarcerated parents.
