Der Titel könnte auch "Rekorde der Erde" lauten, denn es geht um die geografischen Superlative auf unserem Planeten. Aber nicht nur höchste Berge, längste Flüsse etc. werden porträtiert, auch Kuriosa, wie der am stärksten elektrisch geladene Ort der Erde oder die heftigsten Schneefälle seit Beginn der Wetteraufzeichnung werden vorgestellt. Januar 1912 als Höhepunkt ihrer unmenschlich strapaziösen und entbehrungsreichen Expedition auf den Südpol zusteuern, erblicken sie kurz vor dem Ziel einen schwarzen Fleck.
