An early epistolary novel by William Burroughs, whose 1951 account of himself as as junkie, published under the pseudonym William Lee, ended Yage may be the final fix. In letters to Allen Ginsberg, an unknown young poet in New York, his journey to the Amazon jungle is recorded, detailing picaresque incidents of a search for a telepathic-hallucinogenic-mind-expanding drug called yage (Ayahuasca, or Banisteripsis Caape), used by Amazon indian doctors for finding lost objects, mostly bodies and souls. Author and recipient of these letters met again in New York, Christmas 1953, and edited the writings to form this single book. The correspondence contains the first seeds of the later Burroughsian fantasy in Naked Lunch. Seven years later Ginsberg in Peru writes his old guru an account of his own visions and terrors with the same drug, appealing for further counsel. Burroughs' mysterious reply is sent. The volume concludes with two epilogues: a short note from Ginsberg on his return from the Orient years later reassuring Self that he is still here on earth, and a final poetic cut-up by Burroughs, I am dying, Meester?

Obsáhlý výbor poezie předního amerického básníka Allena Ginsberga, zakladatele literárního hnutí beat generation. Kniha obsahuje jak básně notoricky známé (Kvílení, Kádiš), tak i básně dosud v češtině nepublikované. Výbor „Neposílejte mi už žádné dopisy“ podává ucelený přehled padesátileté Ginsbergovy tvorby v rozmezí let 1947–1997. Kniha je doprovázena autorovými ilustracemi.

Ze sbírek Collected Poems 1947-1980, White Shroud, Poems 1980-1985 a časopiseckých vydání uspořádal převážně sám A. Ginsberg za své návštěvy v Praze roku 1990. Ediční poznámka Cílem tohoto výboru z Ginsbergovy poezie bylo navázat na souborné vydání ginsbergovských překladů Jana Zábrany (Kvílení, Odeon 1990), jež je ohraničeno lety 1950 – 1965, a pokusit se tak doplnit a ucelit obraz díla tohoto předního představitele americké beat generation. Doporučující výbor ze svého díla provedl při své poslední návštěvě v Praze (v dubnu 1990) sám autor; jeho výbor byl sice (především z důvodů rozsahu textů) zkrácen, avšak zároveň byl i (především z důvodů možností překladu a předpokládané srozumitelnosti českému čtenáři) rozšířen o několik dalších básnických textů z let 1965 – 1985, a také o pár čísel z pětiletí následujícího, tj. z posledního období básníkovy tvorby. Výbor je symbolicky ukončen loňským Návratem krále Majáles. Při uspořádání výboru jsme také přihlíželi ke studii Protestní, prorocké a elegické zpěvy Allena Ginsberga od prof. Josefa Jařaba (otištěné v odeonském svazku Kvílení), která pojednává i o posledních desítiletích básníkovy tvorby a která nám pomohla se v básníkově rozsáhlém díle zorientovat. Toto vydání obsahuje dvě knihy – Teplouš (Burroughs) a Dopisy o Yage (Burroughs / Ginsberg). „Protagonista mého prvního románu Feťák, Lee, se jeví jako zcela integrovaný a soběstačný, jistý si sám sebou i tím, kam směřuje. V Teploušovi je rozložený, zoufale někoho potřebuje, ať užznámého nebo prostě nějaký kontakt, je naprosto nejistý sám sebou i smyslem své existence.“ Kniha, která nás opět díky svému věcnému jazyku a suchému stylu, temnému humoru a agresivní energii uvádí do Burroughsových vizí, jež se už dávno staly skutečností. Kniha byla napsána v roce 1952, poprvé však vyšla až v roce 1985, česky pak v roce 1991.

Mezi nejznámější básnické skladby Allena Ginsberga patří Kadiš, velkolepý žalozpěv na básníkovu zesnulou matku, jejíž duševní choroba silně ovlivnila jeho dětství. Zárodky básně vznikly v Paříži v roce 1957, kde Ginsberg s beatnickými tvůrci prostřednictvím halucinogenů „rozšiřoval sféru vědomí“. V Kadiši se mu podařilo vypsat se z hlubokých traumat, přičemž k odemknutí podvědomí použil morfium a metamfetamin. Konečná revize proběhla po návratu z Peru, kde užil ayahuasku. Výmluvné jsou názvy dalších básní ve sbírce, jako Meskalin či Kyselina lysergová; autor v nich opět vymítá ducha své matky, lamentuje nad iluzorností univerza a prožívá pocity tvůrčího zmaru i duchovního prozření. V psychedelickém proudu vědomí nechává volně plynout vize, nářky a chvalozpěvy, čímž k nám po šedesáti letech skrze své verše stále živě promlouvá. Básnická sbírka Kadiš a jiné básně, vydaná v roce 1961, obsahuje Ginsbergovy básně z konce padesátých let v klasickém překladu Jana Zábrany. Čtyři dosud nepřeložené básně přeložil Bob Hýsek.

Autoři se vydávají na cesty fantazie vyvolané halucinogeny, setkávají se s obrazy ráje i temnoty, smrti a sebezničení. Tato antologie je pro dnešního čtenáře ukázkou svobody tvorby psychedelické generace šedesátých let, která zanechala nesmazatelnou stopu v moderní literatuře. V knize Nejlepší hlavy mé generace Ginsberg vychází především z vlastní zkušenosti, popisuje svá první setkání s Kerouacem, Burroughsem i dalšími členy beat generation a nabízí vskutku neotřelý, kritický a přitom nesmírně živý pohled na jedno z nejvýznamnějších literárních hnutí dvacátého století.

Allen zde vyjadřuje své názory na homosexualitu, politiku spojených státu, Kuby i Sovětského Svazu. Vrací se zde ke svým kamarádům, ale i partnerům (Kerouac, Burroughs), poodhaluje něco ze svých zkušeností s drogami etc…
