Gesture in embodied communication and human-computer interaction

Mehr zum Buch

The International Gesture Workshops (GW) are interdisciplinary events focused on gesture-based communication research. Since 1996, these workshops have occurred approximately every two years, with proceedings published by Springer. The GW 2009 was held at Bielefeld University’s Center for Interdisciplinary Research from February 25–27, 2009. This event aimed to provide a platform for participants to share and critique recent research with a multidisciplinary audience. Over 70 experts from fields such as computer science, linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, and the arts gathered from 16 countries to present their findings under the theme “Gesture in Embodied Communication and Human–Computer Interaction.” The growing interest in this area led to a significant number of high-quality submissions, making GW 2009 a pivotal event for those engaged in gesture-related technological research. Consistent with previous workshops, presenters were invited to submit their papers for a subsequent peer-reviewed publication. The resulting book features a selection of 28 thoroughly reviewed articles, showcasing research contributions from eight countries.
