The Upper Necaxa Totonac Dictionary is the most extensive collection of lexical material for any member of the Totonac-Tepehua family and the only record for this previously-undescribed polysynthetic language, spoken in two dialects by about 3,400 people in Puebla State, Mexico. It includes a short grammatical sketch and 9,000 lexical entries, featuring fixed expressions, idioms, and ideophones. Each entry provides part-of-speech information, phonetic transcriptions, dialectal notes, grammatical details (like plurals and classifiers), morpheme-by-morpheme glosses, example sentences, and cross-references to derived forms and related words. An accompanying DVD offers additional illustrative sentences, audio recordings of headwords, and interlinear glosses for many entries.
