Fifteen years after the Natchez Burning trilogy, Penn Cage finds himself alone, burdened by a mortal secret and the loss of loved ones. His isolation ends when a brawl at a Mississippi rap festival leads to a mass shooting that nearly claims his daughter Annie's life. As Natchez and Bienville grapple with the aftermath, plantation homes burn, and a Black radical group claims the violence as acts of justice, sparking panic and threatening a race war. This turmoil escalates into a national spectacle with the rise of Robert E. Lee White, a Southern war hero and third-party candidate dubbed “the Tik-Tok Man.” Funded by a Mississippi billionaire, Bobby White's campaign draws parallels to H. Ross Perot's unprecedented run for the presidency. As he prepares to declare his candidacy across all fifty states, America becomes increasingly polarized: Black vs. white, states vs. federal government, democracy vs. Fascism. In a desperate bid to expose White's true motivations, Penn teams up with his daughter, now a civil rights lawyer, and a former Black Panther. Together, they confront the looming threat of a second Civil War, striving to prevent the nation from descending into chaos. The narrative plunges into contemporary issues, reflecting a nation on the brink of anarchy.
