Bartmiński Jerzy, born in 1939 in Przemyśl, is a professor emeritus at UMCS and the Institute of Slavic Studies PAN. He is an ethnolinguist specializing in semantics, stylistics, textology, and axiology. A member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, he founded and served as the long-time chief editor of the international journal Etnolingwistyka. Currently, he leads the Ethnolinguistic Team at UMCS/IS PAN and chairs the Ethnolinguistic Commission of the International Committee of Slavists. Bartmiński has authored over 650 works, including 12 books, such as "O języku folkloru," "Nazwiska obce w języku polskim," and "Językowe podstawy obrazu świata." He has also edited significant volumes, including "Współczesny język polski" and the "Słownik stereotypów i symboli ludowych." His contributions to ethnolinguistics are widely recognized, and in 2016, he was awarded the Medal of the President of the Republic of Poland for his services to the Polish language.
