Die Villa Bertramka.The Villa Bertramka.

Mehr zum Buch

The publication is divided into five sections and features numerous illustrations, detailing the extensive architectural evolution of Bertramka, which began as a simple hut in a vineyard. In 1783, the Prague singer Josefa Dušková acquired it as a two-story summer residence, complete with a prominent staircase and stables. The 19th century saw the creation of two "Mozart rooms," based on inaccurate historical interpretations. Following a fire in 1872 that destroyed the original shingle roof, significant renovations occurred, particularly during World War II, when authorities aimed to showcase the German influence in Bohemia and Moravia. A crucial discovery in June 2018 by German musicologist Prof. M. H. Schmid revealed over 100 previously unknown drawings and plans of Bertramka from 1925 and 1941/1942, found in the estate of architect Georg Buchner. This material, preserved in the Munich Museum of Architecture, was part of Buchner's project on Mozart and Beethoven sites. Schmid, alongside Milada Jonášová from the Institute of Art History, initiated a research project that culminated in an exhibition and an international conference at Bertramka. The outcomes of these efforts are compiled in this publication, highlighting Bertramka's significance as a Mozart memorial site.
