The Rick Bishop private investigator series continues as a local attorney hires him to find her missing friend, insisting on joining the investigation. The friend, Diane Clark, has a troubled past, and her mob-connected ex-father-in-law is also searching for her for two million dollars' worth of reasons. In financial trouble, Rick reluctantly agrees to have attorney Nicole Hersey accompany him as they trace Diane to a small North Shore town, where they learn she supposedly died of heart failure. This revelation should have ended their search, but Rick notices someone following them. His suspicions deepen when they interview the doctor who declared Diane dead. Confronting the man tailing them, Clifford Shepard, reveals he is an IRS agent investigating Diane for tax evasion related to her recent windfall. As Rick gathers evidence suggesting Diane may have faked her death, he finds himself in a cemetery at night with friends Joe Rose and Koko Mahelona, digging up what they believe is her casket. Just as they unearth it, three mobsters from the East Coast ambush them. With the case turning deadly, will Rick find Diane and her money before he hits his own dead end?
