      Deutsch von Frank GüntherMit einem Essay von Ingeborg Bolz Zwei Paare werden in der 1600 uraufgeführten Komödie Opfer von Intrigen: Graf Claudio gewinnt, trotz seiner Schüchternheit, die Hand von Hero, Tochter des Statthalters von Messina. Fast zerbricht die Liebe des glücklichen Paares jedoch, als die unschuldige Hero von Neidern am Hof der Untreue bezichtigt wird. Den Hauptreiz gewinnt das Stück vor allem durch das zweite Paar: Der Soldat Benedick, ein eingefleischter Frauenverächter, und Beatrice, scharfzüngige Männerhasserin, liefern sich bissige Wortgefechte von sprühendem Sprachwitz. Schließlich werden sie, ebenfalls durch eine Intrige, von der angeblich unsterblichen Zuneigung des jeweils anderen überzeugt – und gestehen sich prompt ihre wahren Gefühle für den nur scheinbar verhaßten anderen ein. Das oft gespielte Stück feierte vor einigen Jahren auch auf der Kinoleinwand große Erfolge: in der Verfilmung von Kenneth Branagh glänzen er selbst und Partnerin Emma Thompson als das haßliebende Paar. Der Band erscheint wie immer in zweisprachiger Ausgabe, deutsch von Frank Günther, und mit einem ausführlichen Anhang.
