What happens when the system designed to protect children fails? This is the reality in UK family courts regarding Parental Alienation, a form of post-divorce abuse. Cafcass defines Parental Alienation as when a child's hostility towards one parent is unjustified and results from psychological manipulation by the other parent. However, experts, therapists, and social workers lack training to effectively assess or address these cases. After years of presenting my situation to judges, experts, and lawyers, I found no consensus on the dynamics between my ex-wife, my children, and myself. It felt like I was trapped in a slow-motion car crash, desperately trying to prove a negative and find new ways to connect with my kids, only to hit dead ends as my ex-wife pursued her agenda. The family court system is overwhelmed, slow, and ill-equipped to handle such cases. Hearings are often delayed for months, and traditional safeguarding assessments fail to identify Parental Alienation. The longer a child is estranged from a parent, the more difficult it becomes to reverse the alienation, increasing the risk of mental health and behavioral issues. Alienated parents frequently experience post-traumatic symptoms, including anxiety and suicidal thoughts.
