The narrative follows Jerry Rawlings' rise to power in Ghana, starting with his role as a flight lieutenant in the Ghana Air Force and his initial coup attempt in 1979. After briefly handing over power to a civilian government, he reclaimed leadership in 1981 as head of the Provisional National Defence Council. Rawlings later founded the National Democratic Congress, becoming the first president of Ghana's Fourth Republic in 1992, serving two terms and endorsing his vice-president for the subsequent election. His post-presidency role included serving as the African Union envoy to Somalia.
